I'll let and take it from first moment I listened to this song my heart completely stood still. Pain is pain, in whatever form it may take. I know there's a meme like "this song got me crying about something that didn't happen to me", but genuinely, that's what "Lost One" does to me. I don't have a specific relationship that this song reminds me of, but that doesn't mean it doesn't speak to my soul. All you can do is hold onto the slightest bit of hope that maybe there's forgiveness in the future, as horribly selfish as it may be. Sometimes things don't end well, and sometimes you realize that you were at fault and there's no one who can make you feel better about it. It can be about someone you've lost or a situation you didn't handle well. Jazmine delivers one of her rawest vocal performances to date, and lyrically its power lies in the fact that it doesn't have to be about a relationship. It's almost disarmingly simple, with nothing but an echo-y guitar loop guiding it for its three minute runtime. But then "Lost One" came into my life and it was pretty much settled for me that it was Jazmine's best song ever. Pre- Heaux Tales, I would've had a much harder time deciding - I'm thinking about it now and I would've maybe given it to "Brand New" or "Holding You Down", or even "Bust Your Windows" to be honest.

When it came to deciding my 11, there was no other option. A live version of the song was released to streaming on February 5, 2021. Despite Jazmine posting a photo from the video shoot, it didn't end up materializing for unknown reasons. The song was produced by Dave Watson, and peaked at #9 on the US R&B chart. "Lost One" was released as the lead single from Heaux Tales on August 28, 2020. It also holds the distinction of being the only song in the rate to receive multiple 11s.

Highest Score: 11 10 x7 ( Score: 5 x1 ( Score: 11ĭespite a late-in-the-game attack by "Lost One" emerges victorious as the winner of the Jazmine Sullivan Discography Rate. She did not hold back", and lastly adds " Music peaked with this monster bop’s bridge" (it is an amazing bridge, that's for sure).ĭon't have too much, don't have too much fun I'm just really surprised to see it come this far, I didn't realize it was so says "this is cute, and I enjoy the “dinner” hook!", while asks "Who is this Stan-leh?". I've included it in the bottom of the post, let me know that I'm not just hearing things.Īnyway this is great, but as you can see by my 9, I didn't need this in the Top 10 at all, let alone #2. Or maybe it's a Sugababes "Change" situation where it uses a royalty-free sample. So I've never been able to find confirmation, but does this song sound like it samples Annie's "Greatest Hit"? It does to me. Lyrically, the song speaks about feeling unappreciated in a relationship, with Jazmine's digs aimed at a (presumably fictional) Stanley who doesn't notice the things she does for him. "Stanley" is a monster bop (as correctly describes it!) and track #10 on Reality Show. I always look to the highest scores to differentiate rankings, and since "Stanley" received an 11, that gave it the edge. I know I keep saying this but I did NOT see an album track making it this far! And I know it's not like Jazmine is someone whose singles overshadow the rest of her work, but still.įull disclosure, I don't like doing ties in my rates, so you might notice that this has the same average as "Pick Up Your Feelings". "Stanley" put up an incredible fight and finishes at #2 in our rate. Highest Score: 11 10 x7 ( Score: 8.3 x1 ( Score: 9 One song yearning for lost love, the other song telling him to get lost!

We've reached the finale.Ī stripped-down ballad and an uptempo anthem.
